“Superheroes and Supervillains” for Elias, age 6
A couple months ago, I donated a custom toy portrait and matching stationary package to the New World Symphony here in Miami for their silent auction. The winner, a little boy named Elias, contacted me shortly after to redeem his gift certificate. There are a number of reasons doing this portrait was awesome:
1. It started with a super charming email from an almost-6-year-old. (“I’m an artist. I am almost six. I like your artwork. I am excited to get a portrait of my toys. What kind of paint do you use?”)
2. His favorite toys are 5 action figure superheroes AND supervillians (seriously, who ever gets the chance to paint superVILLAINS?!)
3. I was able to hand-deliver the finished portrait to a very cute, very sweet Elias at a children’s concert at the New World Symphony.
4. Last but not least, Elias did a drawing for me in return. No kidding. It’s a drawing of a rockstar. It’s amazing. I have it hanging in my studio for inspiration. How cool is this kid?!?

Erin this is incredible!! I love it, that is something I am sure you will treasure forever and a day. What a sweet hearted little boy…and once again I will say that picture you painted of the action figures is totally rad!
Erin, thanks so much for your generosity in creating such a beautiful portrait for Elias.
As his father, I can say that he is thrilled with your work-not to mention the personalized stationery. At the ripe old age of 6, Elias considers himself to be a ‘working’ artist. I don’t know how he developed this idea on his own, but the fact is that he is compelled to make art, something which brings him a great deal of joy and satisfaction. One day, I woke up at 6 am and found him at the kitchen table drawing. I asked him why he was up so early drawing, and he responded: “artists like to work, and I’m an artist.”
We can’t tell you how pleased we are with your beautiful work and with the inspiring effect it has had on Elias.
Many thanks and best,
Bill
