Lucy Sarah contacted me a few weeks ago to paint a portrait of her beloved dog, Lucy. Lucy was more than a pet to her owners, she was a part of the family. Sarah’s husband even referred to her as “his first wife”. She lived to be 18, a good long life for a Golden Retriever, but her family sadly had to have her put down last year. I think Lucy’s eyes are my favorite part of this painting – I tried hard to capture the melancholy sweetness of her gaze. I hope Sarah and her family find some comfort with this painting. So this lovely lady Christa contacts me last week, wanting to get a commission done for her best friend’s wife, Tara, and Tara’s new baby daughter. Turns out Christa and Tara had the EXACT same stuffed dog as children and have both kept the dogs for all those years. But wait, the story gets more interesting.
